Girl One: People are sad.
Girl Two: Mm, yeah. Life is sad. Cumulatively life is sad. But it's weird because I think in the individual moments, all the little ones, separately one after another, we're actually extremely happy. And the reason we get so sad in the end, adding them all up, is because these little happy moments don't make sense with each other. They're disjointed like that. They conflict and cancel each other out, or else negate each other completely. And that's why human beings like plotlines so much, with beginnings, ends, means to ends, heroes and villians, good and evil. Because in reality, in society, in life, none of that exists. There are no such things.
